Mobile Food Distribution Event
We are partnering with Galveston County Food Bank to distribute groceries to people with food insecurity. Our next event is Saturday, August 20 at 9:00 am. Please register and bring your families, including young people age 13 and up. This is a great opportunity to directly help people in our community.
We are not only looking for disciples to help out. If you or someone you know is in need of food, please come to this event. This is how it works: Recipients will line up in their cars. It is first come, first served. Some recipients begin lining up an hour or more before the food is distributed. The recipients will be registered by a volunteer. Registration consists of just a few questions and a signature. Then when food distribution begins, the recipients will drive up and the food will be loaded into the trunk of their car or bed of their truck. It’s that simple.
For workers, the time commitment is four hours and might be less. Volunteers should arrive by 8:00 am to set up and be ready to begin giving out the food at 9:00 am. We’ll have water and shade canopies available, but wear your sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. (No flip-flops or sandals, please. Only wear closed-toed shoes.) We’ll be setting up tables and canopies, sorting and bagging food, getting some information from the recipients, putting the groceries into people’s cars, and cleaning up afterwards.
To sign up, please do so here, or call the parish office at 409-925-3579, extension 203. If you have signed up, but are unable to be there, please call and let us know. Thanks!
